| Brandon Schmidt’s double second place finish in the latest round of the 2026 Euro Moto Kawasaki ZX6-R Cup at the Nürburgring means that the talented German teenager now sits equal fourth overall in the championship standings after three consecutive podium finishes – an impressive run in his debut season in the category.
A strong start to the weekend in practice, Brandon put his Bike Smith Kawasaki onto the second row after final qualifying, giving himself a real shot of a good result in both races at the iconic 3.2-mile circuit.
The opening thirteen lap encounter saw the #13 leading at the first corner before being shuffled back a couple of places. A consistent pace and some great riding kept him in podium contention and after a hard-fought race he crossed the line second to achieve his best result in the series to date.
Sunday’s race was also hard fought with Schmidt once again battling throughout for the podium. A group of five riders meant it was an at times tense race for those watching. But it was a fun race for Brandon, who after claiming his second podium of the weekend – his third consecutive podium finish of the year – has shown that he is someone to watch out for as the season heads to its final round in Hockenheim at the end of September.
Brandon Schmidt: “I started P6 after a good lap in qualifying and had a great start in the first race and was leading by the first corner. I made a small mistake and dropped to fourth and after a few crashes around me I was able to move back to second which I was able to hold on to until the flag. It was honestly more than I could have hoped for and I was confident that we could maybe make another podium in race two. I made another good start in the second race and even after some of my rivals went defensive on me, I was able to move up to third by the second corner. I moved into second and my pace was good. I was fighting the whole race which was fun and I think a good show for the people who were watching. I finished second again which is great for the championship, and I now have a really good feeling on the bike, and I think I’ve shown that I can ride a bike quite well.
