Britain’s Greg Marshall continues to impress in this year’s Yamaha R3 BLU CRU World Cup.
The second round of the series took place this past weekend at the 3.1-mile MotorLand Aragon circuit in Spain with Greg adapt to life in the World Superbike paddock aboard his AG Motorsport Italia Yamaha and racing to back-to-back points finishes – becoming only the second British rider to do so!
A strong start on Friday morning saw the #95 finish FP1 in seventeenth. He went on to secure P21 on the grid for the first of races.
Saturday’s opening nine lap race was fast and furious with Greg involved throughout in an intense battle for the fourteenth. A red flag meant the results were taken from the last timing point that each rider passed which meant he was classified fifteenth after a hard-fought race in extremely hot conditions.
Sunday’s race once again saw Greg involved in a race long fight. He crossed the line twenty-first but was happy after improving his overall race time and running with the lead group in the opening laps before a small mistake saw him lose touch with the leaders.
In addition to his second point scoring result of the year on Saturday, Yamaha judged Greg to have posted the best social media of the round, presenting him with a trophy for his efforts at the end of the weekend.
Round three of the series takes place in the UK at the Donington Park circuit in early July with Greg already focused on achieving his best result of the season before the summer break. He will also take part in the annual Two Wheels for Life charity concert and perform a DJ set on the Paddock Show stage on the Saturday night.
Greg Marshall: “Race one on Saturday went well. I didn’t make the best start and got caught behind a couple of riders. That let the group ahead of us get away. From then it was impossible to run with the front group. I ended up having a good battle and it was the most fun race I have had in the R3 BLU CRU World Cup so far. I crossed the line P14 but because of a red flag I was classified fifteenth. I was happy and it was good to show that I can be aggressive all race and I was looking forward to Sunday. Race two gives me a lot of confidence for the next round. I wheelied off the line but managed to run with the leading group for the first couple of laps but I made a mistake and went off the track at turn seven. The gap after I rejoined was just too big to bridge on my own and I ended up with some slower riders who just messed me up. Because of the way the were riding my pace was several seconds slower than in the beginning of the race and I ended up fighting for positions I shouldn’t have been in, but that’s racing. I have shown that I have the pace and that I can race with the front group at a track I have never been to which gives me a lot of confidence for my home race at Donington Park in a few weeks. Big thanks to everyone who is supporting me. See you in the UK.”
